Duke Energy IGCC, Edwardsport, Indiana

One of the largest mine grouting projects recently completed in the United States with nearly 149,000 cubic yards of grout manufactured and placed by Howard Concrete Pumping.

The Cleveland Clinic

At the Cleveland Clinic, a recent addition, which combines a 227,000 square foot underground facility with an 8-story aboveground parking garage, has given us at Howard an opportunity to display our unmatched versatility and reliability in concrete pumping. For a single pour in May 2007, our four units pumped more than 500 cubic yards per hour with ease. In four pours alone, we pumped more than 15,000 cubic yards.
As most contractors know, projects of this size present many challenges, including a demanding schedule with little room for error. The concrete pumping solutions proposed by our team of professionals has been a key factor in keeping this project ahead of schedule.

Limestone Storage Silo Foundation: Harrison Power Station, Shinnston, West Virginia

A record-breaking mat pour - one of the largest ever undertaken in the United States - called for Howard crews to pump 16,200 yards of concrete over an area of more than an acre. It was completed, non-stop in just 51 hours—without a hitch!
A serious problem developed when sink holes began to occur in this power plant switch yard. Working in extremely tight conditions and close to 500,000 volt power lines, we used trailer mounted equipment to pump over 20,000 yards of concrete into abandoned mines under the switch yard. We were also called on to do the same in a nearby
ash disposal site.
Our crews also placed flowable fill for a series of 200 ft. diameter foundations for thickener tanks and maintained a 15-degree slope angle (±1/2") across the entire foundation of each tank in the process. A flowable fill formulation was used for the foundation of a 1,000 ft. stack and in areas around concrete tunnels..

I-79/1-279 Interchange: Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

An emergency situation developed when this heavily traveled intersection began to settle due to mine subsidence. A "fast track" solution was developed when Howard crews, working around the clock, over a weekend, stabilized the area, again without ever taking the road out of service.

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame: Cleveland, Ohio
Services Used: Concrete Pumping

Two underwater tremie pours, totaling 2,000 cubic yards were included in the 15,000 cubic yards of concrete, placed by Howard Concrete Pumping at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame building. The exposed concrete met the strict appearance standards demanded by world-renowned architect I.M. Pei, the designer of the structure

I-77/I-70 Interchange: Cambridge, Ohio
Services Used: Mine Grouting

Over 80,000 cubic yards of concrete, produced in our own on-site batch plant, and pumped over a 5-month period, stabilized both the roadbed and the structures at this highway interchange, one of the largest in the interstate system. Our crews erected the batch plant adjacent to the highway and pumped to the bore hole accessing the mine. Special couplings, proper pump and concrete line sizes all contributed to a trouble-free job…and the highway was never out of service.

Society Tower Building: Cleveland, Ohio
